Broadcast quality video. Local business prices.

After thirty years working in UK television, and for some of the biggest corporate multinational clients, I’m now also focussing on something more personal. Bespoke, professional video and photography content for small businesses across Sussex.

WHY WORK WITH ME?

Your business deserves to look as good as the programmes you watch on television.

Many small businesses settle for video that looks like it was shot on a phone because that's what they think they can afford. But the gap between broadcast television and what's available to local businesses has never been smaller.

After thirty years working on live news, magazine programmes and current affairs for ITV, Channel 4 and the BBC, I want to bring that same eye, that same standard, and that same collaborative approach to businesses right here in Sussex.

You're not getting a part-time videographer with an iPhone. You're getting a professional director and camera operator whose work you've watched on national television, now offering something genuinely different for local businesses who want to stand apart.

I’m currently looking for Founding Clients as I build this side of my work. If you’re an early adopter, you’ll benefit from significant discounts that won’t be available once the portfolio grows. In return, I’d ask for a testimonial and the opportunity to feature your project here.

Just one or two shoot days with me can produce a complete content suite: not just one video, but a range of formats for every platform your customers use.

The Freshfield Woodsmith: A man in a plaid shirt, safety glasses, and a cap using a miter saw in a woodworking shop surrounded by various tools and materials.

Hero Film

A two minute promotional film that tells the full story of your business: who you are, what you do, and why customers should choose you.

The Freshfield Woodsmith: Close-up of a person using a hand plane to shave wood, with wood shavings falling onto the surface.

A punchy thirty second edit of your hero film, cut for social media feeds, digital advertising, and website landing pages where attention is short.

The Freshfield Woodsmith: Close-up of a person's hand holding a smartphone showing a social media post for Freshfield Woodsmith featuring two smiling people in front of a woodpile. The background is plain and gray.

Vertical format

A forty second version for Instagram Reels, TikTok, Stories and YouTube Shorts. I shoot natively in 4K giving full HD vertical video.

An aerial view of the rural Sussex landscape with windmills, green fields, trees, and a distant town on a sunny day with some cloud shadows.

CAA-compliant aerial footage of your location, premises, or surroundings, adding a cinematic scale that instantly elevates your brand's identity.

A scripted piece-to-camera: a middle-aged man with a gray beard and short, dark hair, wearing a light pink dress shirt, standing against a plain gray background.

Interview

A directed, lit, piece-to-camera or interview with you or your team, bringing personality and authenticity to your story.

Matt Freestone Photography: Multiple glasses of sparkling pink champagne or rosé wine lined up on a bar with blurred warm-colored lights in the background.

CASE STUDY

Bringing a craftman’s story to life

Dan and Jenny run The Freshfield Woodsmith, a bespoke furniture-making business based in East Sussex. Their work is defined by patience, skill, and a deep respect for the natural materials they use. Like many artisan makers, they had beautiful products and a loyal local following, but no video content to speak of. As they looked to grow the business and reach new customers, Dan and Jenny needed a way to bring their craft to life for people who hadn't yet seen their work.

The brief

Dan came with a clear sense of what he wanted to say: the challenge was translating that into content that felt cinematic and authentic, rather than functional and flat. He needed something that would work on their website as a flagship statement, but also translate into shorter, sharper social media formats without losing its character. Importantly, this wasn't just a product film. It was a portrait of a craftsman, and that required a directorial approach rooted in storytelling, not just filming.

The approach

We spent two days together at the workshop. I shot rich images of Dan at work: hands in wood shavings, tools in motion, light falling across finished pieces. The kind of detail that television audiences recognise as quality. I captured drone footage of the surrounding countryside, giving the film a sense of place and scale that anchors it in the Sussex landscape. The centrepiece was an interview with Dan himself, telling the story of their journey. I also captured a library of promotional photographs, environmental portraits of the workshop, detail shots, and images of both of them suitable for web and print use.

The result

Dan and Jenny now have a complete content library to continue grow their business: a two minute hero film for their website (see below), a 30 second cut ready for social media advertising, a 40 second vertical version optimised for Reels, TikTok, Stories, and Shorts, and a photography archive they can draw on across all their marketing.

“We are so grateful to Matt for his outstanding work on our promo video. From start to finish, he was amazing - whether it was helping with an initial concept, storyboarding, making me feel comfortable on camera, or just being a great friendly presence to work with. The finished video was brilliant, and it's already bearing fruit with our business. We simply couldn't recommend him more.”
